The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Melonia, held a telephone conversation on Tuesday with the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, in which, among other matters, she invited him to travel to the Italian capital, Rome.
«I have confirmed my intention to go to Kiev and I have invited Zelenski to Rome,» Meloni has informed in a publication on her official profile on the social network Twitter, where she has added that in the telephone conversation they have also addressed Ukrainian security issues.
«I have renewed the Italian government’s support to Kiev and reaffirmed Italy’s maximum commitment to all useful actions to reach a just peace,» said the Italian Prime Minister regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
For his part, Zelenski thanked Rome for its «solidarity and full support» for Kiev, and assured that Meloni had acknowledged that he was considering the possibility of supplying «air defense systems to protect the skies of Ukraine».
Zelenski also pointed out that the peace formula that the Ukrainian head of state has been talking about for several days and to which he referred during his recent visit to Washington was also put on the table.
