The opposition parties Encuentro Ciudadano, Proyecto Venezuela and Nuvipa have demanded in a joint statement «true unity» amid the consensus that seems to exist among the rest of the forces opposed to President Nicolás Maduro to dismiss Juan Guaidó and his so-called «interim government».
«We are aware of the vital need for the country to have united democratic forces (…) without individual partisan agendas,» says a statement reiterating that Venezuela «needs at this moment a true unity, where there can be no personal or particular interest, no matter how legitimate it may be.»
«This cannot be a matter of political individualities or particular interests, it is an essential matter for our nation», these three opposition forces have insisted after last week the majority of the rest of the parties that supported Guaidó’s self-proclamation as «president in charge» called for his dismissal considering that in almost four years he has not fulfilled the objectives.
According to the statement, Guaidó’s departure would mean accepting a setback «in the international advances achieved in all these years of fighting to unmask the regime», among them «having «managed to demonstrate» that the Maduro government violates human rights, or that it has «a criminal network».
At the same time they have claimed to declare themselves in «permanent session» until achieving «a unitary and unanimous agreement», after the National Assembly last week approved in first discussion to dismiss Guaidó from his position following a petition presented by the bulk of the opposition, and which is expected to be ratified on December 29.
Guaidó, who came to be recognized by more than half a hundred countries as «interim president» in 2019 following his self-proclamation after not recognizing the results of the 2018 presidential election, has seen his political weight abroad dwindle every year, as well as his leadership within the opposition.
