The former president of the Peruvian Parliament, María del Carmen Alva, has expressed her opposition to her successor in office, José Williams, being able to act as head of state when the country’s president, Dina Boluarte, is absent due to trips abroad.
Before the microphones of the local radio station RPP, the former president of the Congress of the Republic has acknowledged that she does not agree «with the substance» of this proposal presented earlier this week by the Andean Executive.
«It does not seem to me that the president of the Congress has to assume the charge of the president of the Executive because, if she does not have vice presidents, let the prime minister assume. But it has to be someone from the Executive», remarked Alva.
Thus, Alva criticized the possibility that a representative of the powers of the State could assume the government of the country. «It is neither prudent nor responsible,» he criticized.
With these statements, the former president of the Parliament, who was once the visible face of the critics of Pedro Castillo during his mandate, has distanced herself from the voices of opposition to that mandate, who now support the proposals of Boluarte, Castillo’s former ‘number two’.
The Constitution and Regulations Committee of the Peruvian Congress suspended on Tuesday the session to debate the bill proposed by the Government that proposes to entrust the presidential office to the head of the Parliament when the head of State is abroad.
The decision to stop the analysis of the proposal of the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, comes one day after the Executive presented the proposal with «urgent character» to appoint Williams as the person in charge of the Presidency when the President travels to another country.
