The Government of Argentina has extended by decree the public health emergency adopted following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, so that the authorities can continue to take exceptional measures if necessary until December 31, 2023.
This is stated in a text published in the Official Gazette, which designates the Ministry of Health as the main authority for the management of the emergency. The measure will make it possible to make the hiring of health professionals more flexible or to set up field hospitals in a short period of time, among other issues, reports the Télam agency.
«The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health system has generated an accumulated demand for follow-up, treatment, diagnostic tests and specialized care that must be adequately attended to throughout the country,» explained the Ministry in a statement in which it advocated the adoption of «rapid, effective and urgent» measures.
This extension coincides with an increase in international concern about the upsurge of coronavirus infections in China, although no Latin American country has proposed to tighten controls for travelers coming from the Asian giant, as the United States and Spain, among others, have done.
