South Korea confirmed Friday that it has successfully completed the flight of a solid-fuel space rocket nine months after its first test with a home-built rocket, the Defense Ministry said.
The test, for which the ministry did not provide further details, followed a test earlier this month by North Korea in which it flew a solid-fuel rocket, Yonhap news agency reported.
Back in March, the Defense Development Agency conducted the first test of an indigenous solid-fuel space rocket at Taean, 150 kilometers southwest of Seoul, with the aim of confirming its capabilities.
South Korea successfully launched its indigenous Nuri space rocket last June, successfully placing the simulated satellite it was carrying into orbit. Launched from the Naro Space Center, the Nuri rocket was inserted into the 700-kilometer-high target orbit and the performance verification satellite was accurately separated and placed into orbit.
