The dissidence of the extinct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) known as Segunda Marquetalia, announced Friday its intention to sit down to negotiate a peace agreement with the government of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, once the exploratory dialogues with the National Liberation Army (ELN) are over.

«We inform the country and the Government of President Petro that our plenipotentiaries for an eventual peace dialogue are, comrades Walter Mendoza, Iván Alí, Yurleni Guerrero and other comrades who would join the table later,» the guerrillas have notified in a letter in which they have also communicated their end of the year wishes for the country, reported ‘El Colombiano’.

«We cannot continue condemned to eternal war. It is time to offer future generations the possibility of living in peace, reconciliation and good living for the more than 30 million poor. Our greatest dream and wish for Colombia in the New Year is a future of peace built on the basis of human dignity», added the armed group in the letter to the Colombian Executive.

Segunda Marquetalia had previously expressed its willingness to join the ‘Total Peace’ of Petro’s government, although it has reiterated its request to reach a political agreement so that its demands are represented in the institutions, according to the newspaper.

In this sense, FARC dissidents have emphasized that, if a peace agreement is reached between the armed groups and the government, «all parties involved in the Colombian armed conflict, including the security forces» would benefit, which is why «efforts could be focused on definitively stopping the murders of social leaders, which already total more than 180 in 2022».

In addition, Segunda Marquetalia has proposed in its communiqué the creation of «a new Truth Commission» in charge of investigating who were those guilty of sabotaging the Havana peace accords in what they called «the top of the State».
