The Argentine opposition coalition Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change) rejected on Monday the impeachment trial announced by President Alberto Fernandez against the head of the Supreme Court of Justice, Horacio Rosatti.
«The outdated pretension of the president of the nation and Kirchnerism to request the impeachment of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice is a new attack that aims to intimidate and undermine the powers of the State», said in a statement, reported by the newspaper ‘Clarín’.
In this sense, the main opposition alliance, led by Mauricio Macri, has expressed that these «desperate» maneuvers what they show is that the Government seeks «impunity». «They only care about themselves and their legal cases», he added.
Fernandez assured in a letter published on Sunday on her official Twitter profile that she would undertake an impeachment against Rosatti. After that, in an interview with C5N she recalled the trip of judges, prosecutors, officials and media businessmen to Lago Escondido, which the Government has attributed to a shadow plot.
He also criticized the messages exchanged between different authorities and the «advance on other powers» which, in his opinion, implied the intervention of the Supreme Court in the dispute between the central government and the Buenos Aires administration over the distribution of funds. The court adopted a precautionary measure in favor of Buenos Aires within the so-called ‘coparticipation’.
Fernandez and her number two, Vice President Cristina Fernandez, have spared no criticism in recent months against the judicial leadership, which they consider to be at the service of the political interests of opposition leaders such as Macri. Both have framed the recent conviction of the vice-president for corruption as part of this alleged persecution.
