Republicans are trying to plot new strategies in the U.S. House of Representatives after Rep. Kevin McCarthy failed for the sixth straight time to convince the group of 20 conservatives who oppose his promotion.
Despite negotiations by his allies both Tuesday and early Wednesday, as well as a release by his main ally, former President Donald Trump, in his support, McCarthy has again garnered the same 201 votes, NBC reported.
For his part, the Democratic candidate Hakeem Jeffries has obtained 212 votes, while the 20 Republicans of the most conservative wing of the Republican Party have voted in favor of the candidate Byron Donalds. Republican representative Victoria Spartz repeated her abstention, as in the fourth and fifth rounds.
For the moment, the House -which cannot renew its activity until electing a president-, has adjourned and voting will resume at 18.00 hours (local time), as reported by CNN.
