The Peruvian Public Prosecutor’s Office has included former Labor Minister Betssy Chávez and former Production Minister Jorge Prado in the investigation against former President Pedro Castillo for the alleged crimes of criminal organization, aggravated influence peddling and aggravated collusion, according to sources of ‘El Comercio’.

Likewise, other 20 congressmen from Acción Popular (AP) and Perú Libre (PL) have been added to the case opened by former prosecutor Pablo Sánchez, who is investigating an alleged criminal network that operated in the Ministry of Transport and Communications led by Castillo.

Businesswoman Karelim Lopez denounced the existence of an alleged mafia in the country’s Ministry of Transport and Communications and pointed the finger at Castillo, after which Sanchez opened investigations in May against former Minister of Transport and Communications Juan Silva and six congressmen from Acción Popular known as ‘Los Niños’ (The Children).

Peruvian prosecutors are investigating whether congressmen Raul Doroteo, Elvis Vergara, Juan Carlos Moro, Jorge Luis Flores, Darwin Espinoza and Ilich Lopez, all of them from Accion Popular, are members of an alleged criminal network that operated in the Ministry of Transport and Communications and was allegedly led by Castillo.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, the alleged criminal organization had two groups with defined tasks. The first group recruited and negotiated with businessmen and was made up of former presidential secretary general Bruno Pacheco, businessman Zamir Villaverde, and two of the president’s nephews: Fray Vásquez Castillo and Gian Marco Castillo Gómez.

The second group would be responsible for the execution of the crime by favoring certain companies in the contracts and would be integrated by officials of Provías Descentralizado previously appointed by former minister Silva. The Attorney General’s Office maintains that the organization had a vertical structure, with members at different levels.
