The Pope has met with Cardinal Zen of Hong Kong, who received judicial permission to leave the country to attend the funeral of Benedict XVI, according to the newspaper ‘America’.
The photo of the private meeting, which took place this Friday, shows the smiling Archbishop Emeritus of Hong Kong, who was one of the 130 cardinals who concelebrated the solemn funeral Mass of the Pope Emeritus, together with Francis.
The Asian cardinal had his passport withdrawn after his arrest in May on a charge of «collusion with foreign forces» for failing to register a legal defense fund in time to help 2019 anti-government protesters.
The cardinal was sentenced in November to a fine of 492 euros for urging the international community to impose sanctions on Hong Kong, although Justice could eventually impose life imprisonment following the passage in 2020 of the National Security Law.
