The French government announced Friday that the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, will visit Paris on January 9 to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, as part of his international tour in which he will also visit other European countries and the United States.
Kishida and Macron will hold a business dinner at the Elysee Palace and then visit the Notre Dame Cathedral. The two leaders will discuss France’s support for Japan, which will assume the presidency of the G7 in 2023, as detailed by the French Executive in a statement.
The two leaders will also reaffirm their attachment to G7 action in support of Ukraine, in response to «Russian aggression and its global consequences», as well as in the face of major global issues such as climate, food security and the fight against inequality.
«The meeting will also be the occasion to reaffirm the ambition of the two countries for the exceptional partnership that unites them, particularly in the domains of energy, defense, emerging technologies or the encore of culture. The two leaders will finally discuss their partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, a region in which the head of state continues his determined action to work for stability and cooperation in the face of common challenges,» the note reads.
Macron and Kishida will visit the reconstruction works of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, a «symbol of this common desire to rebuild in the face of adversity.»
