American skier Mikaela Shiffrin equaled her compatriot Lindsey Vonn’s record number of Alpine skiing World Cup victories with her 82nd win in the competition by winning the giant slalom at Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) on Sunday.
The 27-year-old American won the event ahead of Italy’s Federica Brignone and Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami. Two Olympic victories, six world titles and 82 World Cup successes attest to Shiffrin’s supremacy in alpine skiing.
Since her downhill success in 2018, American Vonn tops the all-time women’s all-time list. The all-time men’s record is still held by Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark with 86 wins. Shiffrin, who celebrated her eighth win of the season in Slovenia, could soon reach this mark.
