The political party Comunes — heir to the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group — has denounced the murder of former guerrilla Cristian Fernando Salinas Choque, known as ‘Macarela’.
Salinas, 34, was shot in the village of Costa Rica, municipality of Ginebra, in the department of Valle del Cauca, and was taken alive to a hospital in the municipality of Buga, where he later died.
The Comunes party has denounced that Salinas had been subject to «multiple persecutions, harassment, threats and stigmatization» for his work as a social leader.
«He stood out for leading and promoting social barrismo with the Barón Rojo Sur –supporters of the América de Cali soccer team–, for his prominence as a leader of the social movement during the National Strike of 2021 and recognized for the community dining room that he promoted from his home in that municipality,» Comunes has highlighted.
