Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro has announced that he is admitted to AdventHealth Celebration hospital, located outside the U.S. city of Orlando, after being hospitalized for severe abdominal pain in connection with the stabbing he suffered in 2018.

«Yesterday I had new pains and was admitted to a hospital in Orlando, U.S. (We are) grateful for the prayers and messages of speedy recovery,» Bolsonaro himself has asserted in a message on his Twitter account, in which he has attached a photograph in which he is seen reclining on a hospital bed.

«After being stabbed in (the municipality of) Juiz de Fora, I underwent five surgeries. Since the last one, I have had twice more pains that have led me to other medical procedures,» the former president himself has detailed.

According to the Brazilian newspaper ‘O Globo’, the former president had been admitted for a possible intestinal obstruction, according to the diagnosis of the medical team attending him. For the moment it is not known how long he will remain hospitalized or if he has already been discharged.

Bolsonaro was the victim of a stabbing in the abdomen during the 2018 election campaign. After this attack he has had to undergo up to four surgeries.

However, the former president has suffered several episodes of abdominal pain, for which he has had to be hospitalized on successive occasions, most recently in mid-November, when he was admitted to the Armed Forces Hospital in Brasilia.

This latest hospitalization of Bolsonaro comes just one day after hundreds of supporters stormed the seat of state powers in Brasilia, in an episode similar to the one experienced on January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol.

The former president had been in the United States since December 30, when he left Brazil just two days before the inauguration of his successor, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva. His visit has prompted some U.S. congressmen to call for his deportation to Brazil.
