Iranian authorities have applauded Friday the resumption of diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia and ventured a reopening of the Embassies of the two countries within the framework of the upcoming negotiations between the parties.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amirabdolahian said that Iran «has never initiated a rupture of relations with any country in the Muslim world» and welcomed «the return of these relations to their normal course».
The two countries held four rounds of talks last year with the aim of normalizing their relations and avoiding disputes. Tehran and Riyadh severed diplomatic relations in 2016 following an attack on Saudi missions in Iran by protesters calling for a halt to the execution of Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
