The head of the military junta that has ruled Burma since the February 2021 coup, Min Aung Hlaing, has met with the head of the Thai Army, General Chalermpol Srisawat, in Rajine State in western Burma.
The Thai delegation arrived in Thandwe on Thursday in a special Royal Thai Air Force plane for the meeting, where the sides discussed cooperation between the two countries’ militaries during a visit that will last until Saturday.
Both have agreed to adopt a legal framework to increase the cooperation of the Armed Forces for the future, as reported by The Irrawaddy news portal. Burmese Army sources said Hlaing also thanked Srisawat for Thailand’s assistance in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
The meeting took place as part of a committee established in 2010 by the two countries, which take turns hosting the meeting, which was last held in 2019 in Bangkok.
