A Brazilian bishop has authorized and published a private devotional prayer to Pope Benedict XVI, as reported by the prelate himself on social networks.
It is Bishop Carlos Rossi Keller, of the diocese of Frederico Westphalen, located in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Rossi Keller has published the prayer in Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian.
«As children of the Church we must pray and ask God for his eternal rest in heaven,» the bishop wrote on his Facebook page.
«But as a testimony of his generous dedication to God and knowing that his last words were ‘Lord, I love you,’ we can also privately ask for his intercession,» Rossi explained.
In his post, he stressed that in accordance with the decrees of Pope Urban VIII, it is in no way intended to exclude the judgment of ecclesiastical authority and this prayer is not intended for public worship.»
The bishop also pointed out that the graces attributed to the intercession of Pope Benedict XVI must be communicated to the Vicariate of Rome, with a letter.
