The Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights (LADDH) has confirmed that the Algerian authorities have ordered its dissolution and denounced an «instrumentalization» of justice by the «public authorities» of the African country.
The organization has indicated through its account on the social network Facebook that it has been able to confirm «the authenticity of a document circulated on social networks by third parties, in an intriguing and illegal manner, concerning an order of an administrative court of Algiers on the dissolution of the LADDH».
Thus, he has detailed that the Algerian Ministry of Interior filed this request in May 2022 and added that «the court ruled in favor on June 29 of the same year.» «The ruling ordering the dissolution of the LADDH is dated September 29,» he said.
«The LADDH was absent or avoided during the entire process against it,» he has pointed out, while denouncing that «like other organizations and political parties, it pays its commitment, along with millions of Algerian men and women, in the peaceful movement of the Hirak.»
The body has thus referred to the pro-democracy demonstrations that broke out in 2019 against the intention of the then president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to run for a new mandate and which have continued since then against his successor, Abdelmayid Tebune.
The LADDH has stressed its commitment to «democracy, freedoms and human rights.» «Since always, the LADDH, whose history is confused with that of the nation, has been ostracized and has been fought by the public authorities,» it explained in its communiqué.
«It has always resisted and will still resist. The LADDH denounces the continuous relentless attacks, including this latest decision, which is extremely serious,» it has outlined, while revealing that it «will study the present sentence and will assert its rights by all legal and legitimate means at its disposal.»
The LADDH, the main human rights organization in the African country, was founded in 1985 and was authorized to operate in 1989. The organization has been critical of the repression of protests and the illegalization of various organizations in recent years.
