The Peruvian government has sent a diplomatic note of protest to Bolivia for the statements made by the Bolivian president, Luis Arce, in which he expressed his support to the wave of protests shaking the country.
Arce affirmed that «in Peru we have the Peruvian people in a struggle to recover their democracy and also to recover the right to elect a government that represents them» during an act of his party, the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS).
For Peru, these statements mean that Arce «persists in an unacceptable interference in matters that only belong to Peruvians», according to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs via Twitter.
«Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a note to the Ambassador of Bolivia through which it transmits a strong protest for the statements made by President Luis Arce on internal political issues,» the Ministry explained.
Arce’s statements were shared on Twitter by the founder of the Peru Libre party, Vladimir Cerrón. This formation has expelled the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, who succeeded Pedro Castillo as president after the latter was dismissed for decreeing the dissolution of Parliament.
