Former Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after undergoing «successful» heart surgery last week.
Sources at the National Center for Cardiac Surgery in Astana told the Russian news agency Interfax that «he has been discharged after stabilization and improvement of his condition».
Nazarbayev’s spokesman, Aidos Ukibay, confirmed the operation on Friday and stressed that «there is no threat to the life of the first president». The 82-year-old former president remained «under observation» after the operation.
The former president, who led the country between 1990 and 2019, has in recent months responded to speculation about tensions with the current president, Kasim Khomart Tokayev, especially after he stripped him of some positions, immunity and privileges.
