Three soldiers were killed on Monday when a military helicopter crashed near the Algerian town of El Ataf, located in the northern province of Ain Defla, officials confirmed.
The Algerian Ministry of Defense has detailed in a statement published on its website that the deceased are Colonel Murad Menari, Major Musa Mohamed Dahmani and Sergeant Usama Chebua, without the causes of the incident being clear for the moment.
The head of the Algerian Army, Said Chanegriha, expressed his «sincere condolences» to the families of the «martyrs» and announced the opening of an investigation to determine «the causes and circumstances of this accident».
The President of Algeria, Abdelmayid Tebune, who spoke of a «painful incident», added his condolences. «The President (…) extends his sincere condolences to the families of the martyrs and to all the members of the Army, asking Almighty God to give his mercy to the martyrs,» he reiterated, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.
