The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, held a telephone conversation on Thursday in which they reiterated their determination to act for the environment and against hunger.
«During our interview, I reiterated to President Lula da Silva France’s support after the attacks on Brazilian democracy,» said the French president in a message on the social network Twitter in allusions to the assault on the headquarters of the three powers on January 8.
«We reaffirm our determination to act for the climate, biodiversity, our forests and against hunger,» Macron continued, assuring that both countries will jointly face these challenges.
«A great phone conversation with a friend Emmanuel Macron. I invited him to come to Brazil, to deepen our joint work against climate change, in the fight against hunger and in defense of the environment,» said the Brazilian president.
Since Lula took office as president on January 1, 2023, the presidents of Brazil and France have not seen each other in person. However, Macron has repeatedly expressed his support for the Brazilian president.
«Congratulations, dear president and dear friend on your inauguration – we are together!» the French president wrote on the day of Lula da Silva’s inauguration, stating that Brazil was living up to its motto «Order and Progress.»
