GOP congressmen have criticized the Biden Administration for its response to the discovery of a Chinese spy balloon over U.S. territory, calling on the White House to shoot it down.
«Biden should shoot down the Chinese wooden spy balloon immediately. President Trump would never have tolerated this,» said Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in a message on the social network Twitter.
According to the legislator, a multitude of things are happening under the Biden Administration that former President Donald Trump would not have tolerated, listing the US abandonment of Afghanistan, or the alleged lack of border security.
In the same vein, Republican Senator Tom Cotton has expressed himself, demanding that Secretary of State Antony Blinken cancel his imminent trip to China, where he will meet with his counterpart in Beijing.
«Secretary Blinken should cancel his trip to China. And President Biden must answer why he has not secured U.S. airspace,» Cotton reiterated, also on the social network Twitter.
The Republican requests come after the Pentagon reported that the U.S. military has been tracking a suspected Chinese spy balloon flying over U.S. mainland airspace in recent days.
«The United States detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is over the continental United States at this time,» Pentagon spokesman Gen. Pat Ryder said Thursday.
Ryder also said that the balloon «does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground» while indicating that «it is currently traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic,» although he did not specify where it would be, as reported by CNN.
