The formation of former Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa, Revolución Ciudadana, celebrates the results of the local elections in Ecuador, after winning the mayoralty of the capital, Quito, as well as that of the port city of Guayaquil.
With these results, Correa’s candidates – Pablo Muñoz, in Quito, and Áquiles Álvarez, in Guayaquil – have won in the two main cities of the Latin American country.
Shortly after, the candidate for mayor of Quito, Jorge Yunda, congratulated Muñoz after leading the forecast, stating that «the people have spoken», and thanking those who voted for his candidacy.
In the case of Guayaquil, Correism will put an end to 31 years of government of the Social Christian Party (PSC), which has stagnated, in case the data is confirmed, since now the scrutiny is at 51 percent of the ballots.
Likewise, in the prefecture of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, Marcela Aguiñaga, also of the Citizen Revolution movement, has won.
However, the PSC has indicated that the PSC’s reaction regarding the results in Guayaquil and Guayas will wait, at least until Monday morning, as reported by ‘El Comercio’.
POPULAR CONSULTATION The majority of the citizenship has rejected, according to the first data, the eight questions that the Government of Guillermo Lasso has submitted to the citizenship to promote a series of constitutional amendments.
According to Radio Pichincha radio station, preliminary data point out that the ‘no’ would win the popular consultation, being this a debacle for the ruling party.
Indigenous leaders had opposed this measure, indicating that the Executive has not complied with the promises made at the dialogue tables during the summer.
