The Ukrainian Parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of Igor Klimenko as Minister of Internal Affairs following the death of his predecessor, Denis Monastirski, in a helicopter crash in January in the city of Brovary, located in the Kiev region.
MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak has indicated on his Telegram account that more than 320 deputies have endorsed the decision of President Volodimir Zelensky to put Klimenko – until now deputy interior minister – at the head of the portfolio.
Monastirski died on January 18 following the crash of the helicopter in which he was traveling with part of the Interior Ministry staff. The aircraft crashed near a kindergarten and a residential building in Brovary, killing 18 people, including three children.
