The Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES) has announced its «total willingness and assistance» to those affected by the earthquake that occurred this week in Turkey and Syria.
In this sense, SEMES has placed itself at the «total disposal» of the Turkish Embassy, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense to collaborate with the urgent medical assistance needs derived from the consequences of this catastrophe.
«From our society, with more than 12,000 members, we put ourselves in the hands of our colleagues of Urgencies and Emergencies in the affected countries to offer them all the help they may need in the work of rescue, care and treatment of the wounded. Always coordinated with the Ministries indicated,» said the president of SEMES, Tato Vázquez Lima.
In addition, SEMES has appealed to all its members to help recruit volunteers to travel to the disaster site: «We are doing everything possible to help them to increase aid in the area».
Finally, Dr. Vázquez Lima emphasized that all emergency professionals are «absolutely prepared» thanks to their self-training to deal with this type of tragic events: «We put our self-learning into dealing with these terrible circumstances, since we are not only trained in Emergency Medicine, but also in catastrophes».
