The leader of the Democratic minority in the U.S. House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, has criticized those members of Congress who booed President Joe Biden during the State of the Union address and asserted that they are «unfit to serve» the American people.

«President Biden delivered a compelling speech in which he described a vision for improving the lives of ordinary Americans. And his dignity presented a stark contrast to the right-wing extremists who are unfit to serve,» Jeffries noted on his official Twitter profile.

During the State of the Union address, held last Tuesday, congressmen from the most conservative wing of the Republican Party, such as Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, shouted against Biden when he alluded to the fact that Republicans want to cancel Social Security, according to The Hill.

When the president referred to this issue, Taylor Greene stood out above the rest of the attendees with her resounding accusation to Biden, to whom she shouted «liar», while other congressmen joined in and shouted «no». In response to this reaction, the president responded with a joking remark that there was nothing to worry about and that MediCare would remain in effect.

This clash has generated controversy, even more so when the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy, assured before the speech that the members of his party would behave in accordance with the parliamentary «code of ethics». In fact, McCarthy was seen during the speech trying to silence some of his party colleagues.
