Peru’s former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski has accused fellow former President Martin Vizcarra and Popular Force leader Keiko Fujimori of hatching a plot to oust him from office, although he resigned in March 2018 amid accusations of vote-buying in the motion of censure that was being prepared against him.
«I have nothing personal against him (Vizcarra), but everyone knows that he participated in a plot to remove me, in which he worked with Mrs. Fujimori, that is public information,» said Kuczynski in statements to RPP radio station.
Kuczynski said that he told Vizcarra that he knew of his intentions and of his meetings with Fujimori and others involved in this alleged plot against him. He assured that he asked him for loyalty and that if he wanted him to leave, he should say so publicly, but not plotting «for mysterious hotels and apartments».
«Nobody thought he was going to be a bishop of Keiko Fujimori until he fought with her. He is an opportunist who has done quite a lot of damage to Peru,» he said at another point in an interview, in which he said that Vizcarra was «sold» to be his vice president.
The resignation referred to by former president Kuczynski dates back to March 23, 2018, days before the Congress – dominated at the time by Fujimorism – voted a motion of censure against him for corruption allegations against him related to alleged bribes delivered by Odebrecht.
That motion of censure is also marked by the alleged vote-buying in which some Popular Force deputies, such as Moises Mamani and Keiko’s brother Kenji, allegedly participated after recordings were leaked in which they are seen offering to vote against him in exchange for favors.
Kuczynski is being investigated, however, for alleged irregular financing of his 2016 presidential campaign, as is another former president such as Ollanta Humala, or Keiko Fujmori, a three-time Fuerza Popular candidate.
