
Norfolk Police reported Friday the unexpected explosion of a 250-kilogram World War II bomb in the British town of Great Yarmouth, off the coast of Norfolk, United Kingdom.
Norfolk Police confirmed Friday via a message on Twitter that it was an unplanned detonation and occurred during explosives disarmament work. «All Army and emergency services personnel are accounted for,» it added.
Images of the explosion have been captured by a Norfolk Police drone and shared on the aforementioned social network.
The authorities have confirmed the reopening of the roads near the site of the incident and give the green light for people to return to their homes while the Southtown Road remains still closed due to the investigation work to assess the damage.
The British authorities reported on Tuesday the discovery of a large unexploded device located at a river crossing in the town of Great Yarmuth, and were working on its deactivation.
Army specialists had tried to detonate the bomb in a controlled manner using a technique that causes the explosives to burn slowly and burns the material.
