Two Cubans have managed to reach U.S. territory using a motorized hang glider that allowed them to land at Key West International Airport.
The two migrants touched U.S. soil on Saturday morning, according to Monroe County and Border Patrol authorities.
No serious injuries have been reported following the events and the two have been taken into Border Patrol custody, reports Cuban-American network Martí Noticias.
The United States last month granted political asylum to Cuban pilot Rubén Martínez Machado, who escaped from Cuba in October 2022 in a fumigation plane.
Martinez Machado took off on October 21, 2022 from Sancti Spíritus in a single-engine Antonov An-2 aircraft and landed at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport in the Florida Everglades.
The US decision generated a strong protest from the Cuban Foreign Ministry, which accused the US government of being complicit in a case of air piracy.
A Florida State judge granted political asylum to the Cuban pilot upon determining the existence of the legal figure considered as »credible fear».
