Dozens of people came out last night in the town of Hafuz to denounce the death of footballer Nizar Aissaui, who succumbed to his injuries after setting himself on fire last Monday in protest against an accusation of terrorism.
Aissaui, 35, who had played for clubs such as US Monastir in the top professional category, decided to set himself on fire in front of a police station after being accused of terrorism following a dispute with a salesman, reports the Tunisie Numerique portal.
The player eventually died in the hospital for severe burns in Ben Arous, south of the capital, and after the news of his death the population of Hafuz accompanied the relatives in a protest through the city that eventually degenerated into clashes with security forces, reports Mosaique FM.
