The armed forces of South Korea, the United States and Japan conducted a series of joint naval military exercises Monday in the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea, as the threat from North Korea increases.
The three countries have launched measures to test the parties’ security coordination in the wake of Pyongyang’s »provocative» acts such as ballistic missile launches.
The maneuvers have also included three destroyers. It was an opportunity to strengthen our security cooperation and advance possible measures against ballistic and nuclear threats,» the parties said in a statement, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.
The three countries have been conducting such exercises on the Korean peninsula since February. Last week, during a series of defense talks, the sides agreed to conduct regular maneuvers to counter the North Korean threat and send a clear message to the country.
