At least eight people have been killed in a series of clashes between armed groups in the southern Philippines, authorities said Monday.
The fighting has been going on for the past three days in two locations in the Maguindanao del Sur region on the island of Mindanao, the Philippine News Agency reported.
Sources close to the matter explained that the clashes have been carried out by two groups of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and have caused the displacement of about 4,000 people.
Security forces have indicated that a total of eight suspected rebels have been reported dead. The conflict flared up again on April 22″, explained Colonel Ruel Sermese of the Philippine Police.
The Philippine government reached an agreement in 2012 with this Muslim rebel group to end the armed conflict and achieve peace after an internal war that lasted four decades.
