The Colombian justice system sentenced on Wednesday to 25 years in prison the brothers Ramón and Andrés Pérez Hoyos, considered guilty of masterminding and financing the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, killed in May 2022 while he was on his honeymoon in Colombian territory.

The Pérez Hoyos brothers, who had already admitted in mid-April to having participated in the crime, had been accused of planning, paying and hiring the material authors of Pecci’s murder on the islands of Barú, near the Colombian city of Cartagena, according to RCN Radio.

Colombian judicial investigations have determined that Ramón and Andrés Pérez Hoyos were in charge of the logistics and supplied the money to Francisco Luis Correa, who is accused by the Prosecutor’s Office of being the main responsible for the murder of prosecutor Pecci.

According to the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office itself, both brothers »held several meetings with others involved in the murder to provide them with supplies and finalize details». According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, they had 1,600 million pesos — more than 308,000 euros — to carry out the murder.

Five other people have been arrested in recent months, four of them already sentenced to 23 years in prison, for their involvement in the crime committed on May 10 on the island of Baru, in the Colombian Caribbean, when Pecci was on his honeymoon with his wife, Claudia Aguilera.
