British rider Claire Steels (Israel Premier Tech-Roland) won the 4th edition of the reVolta, the women’s race of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, on Saturday.
Steels left behind the defending champion, Germany’s Clara Koppenburg (Cofidis Women Team), on the ramps of the Alt de la Creu d’Aragall, arriving alone at the finish line in Sant Cugat del Vallès after 126.9 kilometres.
The Catalan race made its debut in 2023 in the UCI 1.1 international category with an international peloton of more than 30 nationalities. The mountain passes of Castellbisbal and Ullastrell did their sifting and the best riders fought for the victory in the first category pass Alt de la Creu d’Aragall, less than 30 kilometres from the finish line.
Nine riders came out on top in this decisive stretch, being caught at the foot of the final climb thanks to the control work of the Israel Premier Tech-Roland and Cofidis Women Team, two of the great favourites for victory.
On the hardest slopes, Steels led a solo attack that only the German Clara Koppenburg (Cofidis Women Team), second half a minute behind the English rider, could chase.
