Banksy confirms authorship of graffiti in Ukraine
The street artist Banksy has confirmed the authorship of graffiti created in Borodianka, Ukraine, on a building destroyed by the war, which shows a girl gymnast balancing on rubble. Banksy published three images of the work on his official Instagram account on Friday, accompanied by a brief message: «Borodianka, Ukraine».

With this message Banksy confirms his presence in Ukraine after speculation of his arrival in the country following the appearance of other graffiti with political overtones also in Borodianka.

It depicts a boy in a Japanese martial arts suit knocking down an adult in a similar costume with a judo headlock, reminiscent of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is fond of self-defence techniques.

Another mural shows two children using a Czech hedgehog, a makeshift defence against tanks consisting of crossed metal beams, as if it were a seesaw.

Borodianka was hit by Russian shelling at the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The town, located west of Kiev, was recaptured by Ukrainian military forces in April, when mass graves containing the bodies of tortured civilians were discovered.
