It does so on the grounds that the lawyer breached its contract.
He does so alleging that his lawyer broke his contract by talking about the former president in the media, damaging his image and reputation.
Cohen has already served just over a year in prison.
Cohen was Trump’s lawyer and the one in charge of making irregular payments to actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election campaign, a crime for which he pleaded guilty and served just over a year in jail. He has also cooperated with justice in the Trump part of the investigation, and has offered to testify about it on numerous occasions.
Cohen has given interviews and written two books
Now, Trump accuses him of having breached the contract he signed with him by revealing confidential information about the tycoon in numerous media interviews, as well as in a podcast created by the lawyer himself and in two books he wrote about the former president.
Trump alleges that false information has been spread about him
In the complaint, he also accuses Cohen of using these statements to spread false information about the tycoon, as well as to damage his reputation and image through perjury.
Financial gains resulting from his relationship with the former president
According to the text of the lawsuit, Cohen «profited from his confidential relationship with Trump for financial gain,» as well as to repair his own reputation, damaged by «his continued misrepresentations and deceptive acts,» as reported by CNN.
Cohen will fight the complaint
For his part, Cohen’s counsel has stated in a statement that they will fight this complaint, and that Trump «is once again using and abusing the judicial system as a form of harassment and intimidation towards Michael Cohen.»
Cohen was one of the first people to speak
When news broke of Trump’s indictment in the investigation into alleged fraud by concealing payments to Stormy Daniels, Cohen was one of the first people to speak out, claiming that he takes «comfort in validating the adage that no one is above the law, not even a former president,» and celebrating the indictment.
