If you accept the invitation
The Argentine player Leo Messi could be part of the walk of fame of Maracana, in Brazil, if he accepts the invitation to be in the historic Brazilian fiefdom after winning, as captain of the Albiceleste and the best player of the tournament, the World Cup of Qatar 2022. SOURCE: (dpa/EP)
Part of this Hall of Fame
According to the Brazilian news portal ‘globoesporte.com’, the stadium’s co-administrator, Suderj, will send a formal invitation to the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) this Monday for Messi to be part of this ‘hall of fame’.
Tribute to great soccer players
Maracana’s walk of fame is a space dedicated to honoring great soccer players. They are invited to place their feet (or hands, in the case of goalkeepers) in a plaster cast, which is then displayed in the stadium.
Pelé, Garrincha or Ronaldo
Brazilian legends Pelé, Garrincha and Ronaldo, among others, have left their footprints on the walk of fame. Messi would be the eighth foreign player to be invited to join the group, which also includes Germany’s Franz Beckenbauer and Portugal’s Eusebio.
The first Argentine player
If he accepts the invitation, he would be the first Argentine player to be honored in space. An opportunity that would come to him after winning this World Cup, the only major title that was not in the showcases of a Messi who, in 2021, already won the Copa America for his country.
