Verifieds removal was to begin on April 1
The social network had announced that on April 1 it would begin to retire the legacy blue badges, so that individual users who want to keep it should access a Twitter Blue subscription and organizations and companies to another one aimed at them, known as »Verified Organizations».
Since April 1, many of the verified products have been maintained since April 1
However, there have been many accounts since the beginning of this month that have kept the blue badge without having paid a subscription.
April 20 was set as the final date
To make amends, Twitter’s current owner, Elon Musk, announced in his profile that «the final date» on which the legacy blue badges would be retired would be April 20, as was eventually the case.
It used to be a free process
The legacy blue badges were obtained through the old, free procedure that only required the interested user to request verification and meet a series of requirements.
Now, you have to pay for verification
Its purpose was to avoid impersonations, by supporting that the user or the organization that managed it was who he/she claimed to be and that, in addition, he/she was a notable actor in the public debate.
Elon Musk has made the decision
This system never convinced Musk, who was always critical of the policy that granted or withdrew the aforementioned badge.
The application has never had any expenses
Therefore, with its new role as owner of the social network, it incorporated the blue badge in the Twitter Blue subscription, so that whoever wanted to have it only had to pay for it, although they also had to meet certain requirements.
