Man shot dead during ‘Scudetto’ celebrations in Naples
A 26-year-old man died in the early hours of Friday morning in Naples amid mass celebrations for the victory of the city’s soccer team, which on Thursday won its first Serie A title for 33 years.
Tens of thousands of people lined the streets to celebrate
Following Napoli’s victory – Napoli had not won the title since Diego Maradona’s leadership – tens of thousands of Italians filled the streets of the city in a huge celebration in which numerous police forces had to be deployed.
Four injured
Despite the police presence, at around 02.00 Friday morning (local time), four people were injured after being shot several times.
One of the injured has died
As reported by the Rai channel, it was learned shortly afterwards that one of the wounded, a 26-year-old man, died of his injuries at Cardarelli Hospital.
No further details are known
Although the authorities have not yet provided further details of the investigation, it is assumed, according to the network, that in the midst of the euphoria of the celebrations someone may have fired a gun, accidentally hitting the four victims.
