Lucile Randon, born on February 11, 1904, passed away on January 17, 2023, less than a month shy of her 119th birthday. According to David Tavella, spokesman for the nursing home, the elderly woman passed away peacefully and painlessly in her sleep. »There is great sadness, but … it was her wish to be reunited with her beloved brother. For her, it is a release,» said Tavella.
Those around her confirm that she loved to be the center of attention
Randon, who became known as Sister Andre after joining a Catholic charitable order in 1944, took the title of the world’s oldest person last year, following the death of Japan’s Kane Tanaka at 119.
Sister Andre dedicated her life to the care of others
The nun, who went blind in her later years, was born more than a decade before the outbreak of World War I and was known for her love of cocktails. She was born the year New York opened its first subway and when the Tour de France had only been held once. Sister Andre retired in 1979 and devoted herself to caring for the elderly until she herself turned 100.

Speaking to French television station BFM at the time, she said: «No, I was not afraid because I was not afraid to die…. I am happy to be with you, but I would like to be somewhere else with my older brother, my grandfather and my grandmother».
