Qatar World Cup draws to a close
The Qatar 2022 World Cup is coming to an end and, in the absence of the final match between Argentina and France seeking glory for their countries, the closing ceremony was held prior to the match.
Short ceremonial
It was not a long ceremony and it made reference, through music and poetry, to the way in which during the month-long tournament, the world was united around soccer.
A memorable night
‘A Memorable Night’, as the show is called, has ended with the songs from the official soundtrack and the performance of some well-known artists.
Live performances
Performing live in front of the audience at the Lusail stadium were Manal, Davido and Aisha, with their (Hayya Hayya) song ‘Better Together’; Ozuna and Gims, performing ‘Arhbo’; and the four superstars Nora Fatehi, Balqees, Rahma Riad and Manal, singing ‘Light the Sky’.
‘Arhbo’, «welcome».
‘Arhbo’, the track by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Ozuna in collaboration with Congolese-French rapper Gims is the second single from the soundtrack and represents unity and fellowship in diversity. Arhbo’ is a colloquial Qatari term meaning «welcome».
Dancers and flags
The highlights of the ceremony were the color of the flags and the fireworks, which brought color to the stadium before the start of the final.
Fireworks
The fireworks followed the play of lights that unfolded with the performance of the dancers who completed the first musical performance.
The state of Lusail
The Lusail stadium, located in the town of the same name, is the largest of all the Qatari stadiums and has been chosen for the closing ceremony and the grand final.
They start to warm up
As soon as the closing ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar was over, the first players took to the field to warm up.
Qatari authorities and Macrom
The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, greets the public in the stadium box. French President Emmanuel Macron will watch the match with him.
Alberto Fernandez stayed in Argentina
Argentine President Alberto Fernandez will watch the Qatar World Cup final between France and Argentina on a screen at home, after superstitiously refusing to go to the Lusail Stadium to watch it in person.
