The coffin of Ramses II arrives in Paris for the exhibition «Ramses and the gold of the Pharaohs».
«Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs,» one of the most impressive exhibitions on ancient Egyptian culture has arrived at La Grande Halle de La Villette in Paris, where it will be presented from April 7 through September 6. The collection, which includes 181 objects from the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II, features spectacular and immersive installations illustrating the pharaonic grandeur of the Egyptian king.
The restored funerary mask of King Amenemope
Among the objects on display is the restored funerary mask of King Amenemope, which has been carefully restored for the exhibition. Curator Dominique Farout describes the mask as «an absolutely extraordinary object, extremely fragile, extremely well restored» and adds that «it is even hard to believe that this object is actually here.»
Cloisonné gold jewels
The exhibition also features cloisonné gold jewelry, a jewelry technique that originated in the Middle Kingdom of ancient Egypt more than 4,000 years ago.
Turquoise, lapis lazuli and amethyst
Ancient Egyptian expert Bénédicte Lhoyer explains that the exhibition features some of the most remarkable examples of Middle Kingdom jewelry, including turquoise, lapis lazuli and amethyst.
Objects more than three thousand years old
Some of the objects are more than three thousand years old and are being exhibited outside Egypt for the first time. The curator, who is overwhelmed by the magnitude of the collection, says she «must confess that I feel chills, although I should be used to it.»
A guaranteed success
In 2019, an exhibition dedicated to Tutankhamun in Paris attracted more than 1.4 million visitors, suggesting that this exhibition will also be a resounding success.
