First training
Thomas Tuchel, the new Bayern Munich coach, conducted his first training session on Tuesday with an eye on his Bundesliga debut. Tuchel replaces Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked last Friday.
Many absences
Tuchel and his coaching staff kicked off the training session at Bayern’s Sports City, although the entire squad was not available. Some players have not yet returned from international duty with their national teams.
Seven professionals and several juniors
Tuchel had seven professional players and completed the training with several youth players. Thomas Müller, Joao Cancelo, Leroy Sané, Bouna Sarr, Johannes Schenk, Sven Ulreich and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (back from back problems) were the only players present. Lucas Hernandez and Jamal Musiala trained separately.
Debut frente at Borussia Dortmund
Thomas Tuchel will make his debut in the dugout next Saturday, against Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, a team he coached between 2015 and 2017. Bayern are just one point behind Borussia so Saturday’s clash will be crucial for the new Bayern coach.
Cup and Champions
Although Saturday’s match at the Allianz Arena could put them top of the Bundesliga, Bayern are still in two other competitions. On Tuesday, April 4, they face Freiburg in the German Cup and on April 11, they face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
