Russia’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Poland’s ambassador to Moscow, Krzysztof Krajewski, after two Polish civilians were killed by missiles in the Ukrainian border town of Przewodow on Tuesday.
Although Ukraine and the Baltic countries initially suggested that the missile was of Russian origin, Poland, the United States and NATO stressed that there was no evidence of such a claim and later pointed out that the projectile had probably been launched by Ukraine to shoot down Russian projectiles.
As a result of this episode, the Polish authorities also summoned the Russian diplomatic representative in Warsaw, Sergei Andreev, in which, according to the ambassador himself, it was stated that the projectile was of Russian manufacture and «immediate explanations» were demanded.
This episode caused a great stir during the last hours of Tuesday, and soon followed the reactions of the main international powers, which called for caution in attributing responsibility for the incident, while stressing the firm position of the Atlantic Alliance in defending the territory of its member states in case they were threatened.
Russia, for its part, also came forward, in this case to deny the accusations about its responsibility in the incident, and stressed that the missile fragments seen over the Polish town do not correspond to the type of weaponry used by the Russian Army.

Later, Russia has confirmed that the Foreign Ministry has also summoned the Polish chargé d’affaires in Moscow, Jacek Szczlyadowski, to whom Russian diplomacy has conveyed its indignation at «the unacceptable stirring up of anti-Russian hysteria in Poland».
«Despite the night and the absence at the time of any reliable information about what happened, Warsaw deemed it necessary to summon the Russian ambassador to the Polish Foreign Ministry and make a political show of it all,» the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In this line, Moscow has conveyed to Szczlyadowski its hope that the Polish authorities «will stop all kinds of anti-Russian speculations in connection with this incident», while at the same time it has valued the fact that he has quickly come out to give his version of the impact of the missiles on Polish territory.
«All comprehensive explanations about the non-participation of our Armed Forces in the incident were immediately given by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation,» said the Russian diplomacy, which urged Warsaw «not to get involved in the dirty provocations organized by the Kiev regime».
