Polls in the United States point to former President Donald Trump as the main loser of the recent mid-term elections in which he openly supported some candidates of the hard wing of the Republican Party who, however, did not reap the results that could be expected.

According to the demoscopic study prepared by Harvard CAPS-Harris exclusively for The Hill, 20 percent of those polled consider Trump to be the biggest loser of the November 8 election. Behind him, with 15 percent, is the Democratic Party as a whole.

Likewise, the candidates more akin to Trump, known as ‘MAGA Republicans’ -because of the slogan ‘Make America Great Again’- are also considered by 14 percent of those surveyed as the main losers.

Twelve percent of respondents have singled out the Republican candidates as the big disappointment of the night. Twenty-three percent, however, acknowledged that they were not clear about their decision and did not opt for any of the options.

«Trump emerges from the (presidential) elections as a much weaker candidate for reelection than before the midterm elections,» said the co-director of the survey, Mark Penn, who stressed that the former president has shown his support for a group of «losing candidates».

The ‘midterms’ were held on November 8 and ended with the Democratic Party retaining the majority in the Senate, a result little expected especially for Republicans who, despite managing to control the House of Representatives, did not certify the ‘red wave’ (by the color of the formation) that Trump predicted.
