Ukrainian authorities have emphasized that there are already more than 50,000 women in the country participating in the war against Russia. «I am proud that one third of our Army is made up of strong and brave women,» stressed the deputy speaker of the Parliament, Olena Kondratyuk.
«More than 50,000 Ukrainian women in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine today fight for peace and security all over Europe,» Kondratyuk celebrated, speaking at the 6th Ukrainian Women’s Congress.
Kondratyuk asserted that this reality is one of the highest indicators among all armies of NATO countries. «This means that women can build, develop, teach, have a successful career, raise children and, if necessary, protect their families and their state,» she said.
«This is a new reality,» said Kondratyuk, who advocated that these «new opportunities» for women not only «should be recognized» but also «should not be underestimated,» Ukrinform agency reports.
For his part, the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Oleksi Reznikov, specified that 59,786 women are participating «directly» in this war, in which 101 of them have already died and another 50 are missing.
«Fifty women have already received state awards, they have the title of Heroes of Ukraine, unfortunately, posthumously,» said the minister, who also detailed that all these women present in the Armed Forces, there are 41,000 who are servicemen serving on the battlefield.
