Poland’s Parliament on Friday commemorated the Holodomor, the name given to the severe famine that devastated the Ukrainian population between 1932 and 1933, and accused Russia of «once again using famine as a weapon» in the country during its invasion of the territory.

The Lower House of Parliament thus adopted a resolution in memory of the 90th anniversary of «the Great Famine in Ukraine and the victims of the tragedy, the survivors and their families», as stated in the resolution, which was adopted by 442 deputies of all political factions with the exception of the pro-Russian deputy Grzegorz Braun.

Thus, they have pointed out that the Holodomor was a «deliberate, planned and consistently implemented action by the despotic Bolshevik regime that ruled the Soviet Union and sought to undermine the resistance of the population and subordinate it to the oppressive state».

It also reaffirms that the Holodomor claimed millions of victims and remains an «open wound of modern history». The Polish deputies have also stressed that 90 years after the tragic events that took place, «Russia continues to use hunger as a weapon, to blackmail the world with this idea, and completely ignores the impact on the markets,» according to a statement from the Parliament.

The resolution further states that Russia is carrying out «propaganda in many regions, especially in Africa, the Middle East and Asia to blame the West for the war in Ukraine and its consequences while denying the impact of its military actions on global food security.»

«Parliament condemns the missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, which seek the destruction of energy infrastructure,» they have pointed out before qualifying that there are indications of «war crimes, something that confirms the barbaric nature of Russian aggression.»

They also called for the Ukrainian genocide to be remembered and for «spreading awareness of this terrible human tragedy that led to the death of millions of innocent people».
