Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced Saturday that a group of young people arrested in the national strike protests will be designated ‘peace managers’ and will be able to leave prison for Christmas.
«Hundreds of young people detained for participating in protests will be declared peace managers before Christmas Eve in Colombia,» said the Colombian leader.
«This government does not agree with youth, social and activist leaders who simply expressed themselves by keeping them imprisoned in Colombian jails when they have the right to spend Christmas with their families,» Petro said, according to FM channel.
The Colombian president has repeatedly stressed the importance of solving the legal situation of these young people held by the security forces during the national strike protests that took place in 2021 during the government of Iván Duque.
