Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amirabdolahian has accused the United States and Western countries of «trying to cause chaos» in the protests taking place in several Iranian cities since the death of young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while in police custody.

«The United States and several Western countries were seeking to create chaos in Iran, and one of the objectives of the United States was to push Iran to make major concessions at the negotiating table,» the Iranian foreign minister has stated.

In this regard, Amirabdolahian added that the authorities of his country respond «to peaceful demands», but do not allow «anyone to disturb and terrorize» its citizens.

The leader of Iranian diplomacy also referred to his talks with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union, Josep Borrell, to reach an agreement to lift the sanctions.

Amirabdolahian made these statements during a press conference with his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic, after a meeting between the two held in Belgrade to strengthen bilateral relations.

«We discussed bilateral, regional and international cooperation with the Serbian foreign minister, and we believe that Serbia is an Eastern country in the West and a Western country in the East, and we are ready to hold the 16th round of the Joint Economic Commission between the two countries in the near future,» he explained, as reported by Iranian media.

The US special envoy for Iran, Robert Malley, considered this Sunday that Iran has no intention of returning to the nuclear agreement it signed with the international community in 2015 — and right now practically suspended since the unilateral withdrawal of the United States in 2018 –.

Talks for Iran’s return to the nuclear deal are at a virtual standstill. The Atomic Energy Agency, the IAEA, last month denounced Iran’s impediments to examining its facilities while Tehran has called for an end to these visits as a condition, among others unacceptable to the US, for returning to the agreement.
